FREE PATTERN! Fat Quarter Friendly! Fun Composition Notebook Cover!

Tutorial:  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qTWHkFjkpo. Tutorial also discusses journaling projects. Lessons Learnt by Sheri McGill.

·       2 fat quarters, single sided fusible fleece stabilizer, and grosgrain ribbon.

·       Cut the 2 pieces of fabric, one for the outside and one for the lining.

o   10 3/4 wide by 20 3/4 long.

·       Cut fleece stabilizer 9 1/2 x 14 ¾.

o   Apply and center it to the outside fabric (fusible is ideal but not necessary). If needing to use non-fusible, have the stabilizer centered prior to hand basting.

·       Options for embellishing only the outside fabric before constructing: quilting, embroidering, applying decorator stitches, Sashiko or nothing.

·       Face the two fabrics right sides together.

·       Pin in the center of one long side an opening for turning.

·       Stitch ¼” seam from one pin (back-stitch) all the way around to the other pin (back-stitch).

·       Remove pins and clip corners close to the seam allowance.

·       Press the opening ¼” down.

·       Straighten all seams and press.

·       On the lining or inside fabric, measure in 2 ¼” from each short side and turn in to the inside and press.

·       Fold both sides together to find the center, then insert the grosgrain ribbon in the pressed opening ½” down and cut the ribbon to be 1” beyond the bottom edge.

·       Top stitch length of 3 and a scant 1/8” all the way around, stopping 1/8” from each corner and turning to continue stitching.

·       Remove hand basted stitches.

Spiral Notebook Cover!

Use the same method as above. Input from Joyce Savage.

Measure the notebook:

·       TOTAL WIDTH + the spiral’s thickness

·       HEIGHT

One Outside fabric and One Lining:

·       cut both: Total Width + 8” and the Height + 1”.

Stabilizer:

·       Total Width of the notebook only. Lay flat & wrapping
the fabric may help you determine width of stabilizer.

When opening and closing the spiral notebook, due the spiral, and thickness, you most likely will need to flatten the cover.
