Special Sewing Series     Do you love to SEW?   Beginning in March 2024, the Lansing Clippers, as a guild, will be working on two sewing tracks.   All members are encouraged to join in and make a jacket or a table runner.   At the March guild meeting we will get READY to sew with a focus on patterns, materials, and basic preparation.   In April we get SET to sew with a focus on adjustments and techniques.   In May at the guild meeting, we will review construction and finishing steps and then you SEW!   WE will be finishing up in June with a sew-in.   So, join in the fun and camaraderie, learn something new, and have a product to show off.   Garment Track The jacket pattern is from Helen’s Closet.   It is the Moss Jacket and cost $16.00.   After we learn how many members sign up (pay your $10 registration fee) the guild will order patterns for members who are signed up.   If you complete the jacket, you will get a $10 reward in June and you will have the pattern.   Here is the l

Make yourself a serger trim catcher to keep those thread and scraps off the floor!   At the December Sew Styling meeting we went over the pattern from https://overtheedge.blog/tutorials/jens-serger-trim-catcher-mat-tutorial   and learned about oil cloth.   Now for the homework – constructing the catcher!   If you don’t’ have a serger, the mat would be great under a sewing machine.   We will show off our new catchers at the January 2024 meeting.   The project uses oil cloth - a slippery, waterproof fabric that you have seen in table clothes and rain-wear.  At the December Sew Styling, Joyce Savage provided several example of the fabric and a tutorial on how to sew with it.  The information is available from https://www.onlinefabricstore.com/makersmill/oilcloth-fabric .   So let's make catchers!
