Lansing Clippers Yearly Challenge - It's Free!

  Lansing Clippers Yearly Challenge The Lansing Clippers has a challenge for their membership each year.   This year the challenge is to make something from a free pattern.   The pattern must be free to the public and must be for a fiber arts article.   It could be something you sew, crochet, knit, weave, etc.   It has to be made during the 2023 calendar year.   More information is given under Special Events at https://www.lansingclippers.com/special-events .   Drawings for prizes will be done at the December monthly meeting.   Everyone who completes the challenge will be eligible for the drawings.   Time is running out!   Have you completed your challenge project?   Have you not started yet?   If not, it is time to get busy!   Start by finding your free pattern.   There are lots of them available on the internet.   Most of the free patterns are not complicated.   In fact, a lot of them are designed specifically for beginner sewers.   Whether you are a new sewer or one with lots

Snaps Snaps and Snaps

    The October Sew Styling meeting featured a presentation on snaps and other types of closures by Joyce S.    Snaps come in a lot of forms - snap button, press stud, press fastener, dome fastener, popper, sew on snaps.    Wikipedia defines snaps as pairs of “interlocking discs, made out of a metal or plastic, commonly used in place of traditional buttons to fasten clothing and for similar purposes. A circular lip under one-disc fits into a groove on the top of the other, holding them fast until a certain amount of force is applied. Different types of snaps can be attached to fabric or leather by riveting with a punch and die set specific to the type of rivet snaps used (striking the punch with a hammer to splay the tail), sewing, or plying with special snap pliers.”   But how do you attach these multiple pieces?   Joyce provided us with demonstrations and a chance to try out the various types of snaps.   She also provided the handout below which will guide you through the types and
