Sew Styling - Fast Flipped Table Runner

This table runner takes two pieces of fabric, some interfacing and less than an hour to make.  Try using you serger to seam the pieces.  The sewing machine works just as well.  This is a great project on which to experiment with decorative machine stitches on your sewing machine or the chain stitch on the serger!  Then bring your table runner to the February Sew Styling meeting to show it off and talk about its' construction and your decorative elements.

Fast Flipped Table Runner

Fabric Needed:

            Main Fabric: ¼ yard
            Backing: ½ yard
Woven Fusible Interfacing: 1 yard (45” wide)

Cutting:

            Cut Main Fabric 9” x 30”
            Cut Backing 18” x 43”

Sewing Instructions:
Note:  Use ¼” seams

1.  Fuse interfacing to Front and Backing.

2.  Find center of each long side of the Main Fabric and the Backing.

3.  Place rights sides together.  Match center points of one side of backing with one side of the main fabric and stitch together along one long side.  Note:  the backing piece will be longer and wider than the main fabric.  Then, match the center points on the other long side of the backing and main fabric and stitch together along the long side. Note: the backing piece will be longer and wider than the Main Fabric therefore, the backing will not lay flat.

4.  Turn right side out and press flat with about 2 ¼” of the backing showing on both sides of the front (this makes the border).

5.  Fold in half lengthwise with right side of backing together.

6.  Stitch ¼” seam along both short ends.

7.  Unfold and turn so right sides are out.  This will make a point of backing fabric on each end.  Press

8.  Top stitch along the loose edge of the points.
