Lansing Clippers Yearly Challenge - It's Free!

Lansing Clippers Yearly Challenge

The Lansing Clippers has a challenge for their membership each year.  This year the challenge is to make something from a free pattern.  The pattern must be free to the public and must be for a fiber arts article.  It could be something you sew, crochet, knit, weave, etc.  It has to be made during the 2023 calendar year.  More information is given under Special Events at https://www.lansingclippers.com/special-events.  Drawings for prizes will be done at the December monthly meeting.  Everyone who completes the challenge will be eligible for the drawings.

Time is running out!  Have you completed your challenge project?  Have you not started yet?  If not, it is time to get busy!  Start by finding your free pattern.  There are lots of them available on the internet.  Most of the free patterns are not complicated.  In fact, a lot of them are designed specifically for beginner sewers.  Whether you are a new sewer or one with lots of experience, you should be able to find a free pattern that fits your needs for this challenge.

Start by searching for free patterns.  I began my search at Google and typed in “free sewing patterns”.  There were hundreds of them.  I found lots of simple to make projects at https://diydanielle.com/free-pdf-sewing-patterns/.  They included cloth lunch sacks, earbud pouches, half aprons, reversible shopping bags, and Christmas stockings.

I also found hundreds of free patterns at https://www.freepatterns.com/sewing.  They included a sewing machine cover, a hanging thread organizer, and an applique pattern to use on a towel or apron.

At https://sewcanshe.com/how-to-make-a-quilt/classic-quilt-block-patterns/,  I found both free sewing and quilting patterns.  Just click on “Free Sewing Patterns” on the web page.  Caroline has quite a list of free patterns.  They include tote bags and purses, a travel bag, convertible backpack, a walker caddy, a fanny pack, and a garment bag.  The list also includes quilting projects.

If you like garment sewing, there is a free tee shirt at https://lifesewsavory.com/free-sewing-pattern-womens-spring-tee/.  This one has ¾ length sleeves and a curved hem.  There is another free tee shirt at https://doitbetteryourself.club/collections/free-patterns.  It is called the Anything But Basic Tee for women.  If you prefer to make a skirt, there are 28 of them at https://www.itsalwaysautumn.com/how-to-make-a-skirt-free-skirt-patterns/html.

Sewing machine manufacturers are another great source for free patterns.  I know you will find free instructions for projects at both Pfaff (https://www.pfaff.com/en-us/Get-Creative/Projects/ and Babylock (https://babylock.com/learn-and-create/inspiration).

That is only a small sample of free patterns that are available to you.  If you prefer something not listed here, just search for what you want to make and start your search with “free pattern to make” and list what you want to make.  If you have problems with printing a pattern, ask a friend or family member for help.  Most young people are very proficient with computer operations.  But don’t delay.  You have just two months or so left before the December meeting.  Get started today!

Good luck with whatever free pattern you decide to use for your project!
