PINEAPPLE BLOSSOM

The adventure of scrappy quilt-making continues.  The Curvy Log Cabin quilt is finished.  I love it!  Pictures are included so check them out.

As I explained in my last post, the “curvy-ness” of the block is achieved by using 2 ¼ inch wide dark strips and 1 ½ inch wide light strips.  There are several different layouts published for the curvy log cabin block so I may make another quilt when I run out of ideas for new scrappy quilts.

My next charity quilt (#3) will be the Pineapple Blossom, a simpler variation of the Pineapple Block with triangles added to only two diagonal sides instead of all four sides.  I’ve enclosed a picture of the block as a preview of this next quilt.  The pattern is free on Bonnie Hunter’s website, www.quiltville.com.   Although the pattern looks complicated, it is relatively quick and easy.

Bonnie Hunter has a plethora of information on her website.  She writes a blog post six days a week, sharing the activities of retreat attendees at her Victorian Home in Southern Virginia (close to the North Carolina border and the Appalachian Trail).  Her blog also provides a preview of new block patterns she is developing.  Bonnie is a strong advocate of scrappy quilting and has developed a system of cutting and storing fabric in pieces sized so they are ready when she gets a new idea.  I encourage you to visit her website.  I’m a huge Bonnie Hunter fan!

I’m also starting a Block of the Month quilt which I discovered on the Stitchin’ Heaven website.  It’s called Camper Trailers and comes with fused applique pieces to add to the provided fabric.  I smile every time I look at the picture of the completed quilt.  This and other Block of the Month projects can be seen at http://stitchinheaven.com.  This is another website with lots of interesting ideas and lots of fabric to buy if your stash is running low.  I’m making this lap size quilt for myself or I may give it to one of my friends who camps.  It looks like a fun project and I’ll share my progress with you.

I think I need to get back to my sewing machine.  So much to do.  Bye!
